Homemade Moisturizing Coconut Lotion for Face and Body

Coconut Oil’s Non-Clogging and Skin Cleansing Benefits

Coconut oil is my favorite oil because it has so many uses. It can be used for cooking, sun protection, lubrication, moisturizing your hair and skin, dental health, etc. Coconut oil has anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral properties that help build up our immunity. It balances blood sugar by enhancing insulin sensitivity, which in turn, assists in getting nutrients to our muscles. It is known to improve estrogen levels, especially during menopause.

My mother gave me one of the best pieces of advice when I was in my early twenties. She said, “If you want your skin to look young, for as long as possible, you need to moisturize your skin morning and night.” I tried many products on the market when I was younger, and my skin would either break out in a rash or dry out very quickly. Though I’ve never understood why alcohol is put into skincare products, I believe it was the main cause of my dry skin. So, when coconut oil started trending, I began researching how to create my own skincare product from scratch. I studied the benefits of coconut oil and realized the anti-inflammatory effects combined with its non-clogging and skin-cleansing properties were what my body needed, inspiring me to create my unique skin product. I know most people don’t like oil on their skin because of the possibility of it rubbing off on their clothes, but an easy solution is to put it on first thing in the morning. The key is to apply it about 5-10 minutes before you get dressed or right after your shower, so it has time to absorb.

To further the benefits of coconut oil, I added additional beneficial oils to my homemade skincare product. The recipe I use is easy to make and works wonders on the skin. For the past 8 years, it has become a main component of my skincare regimen. I even make my product for friends who have also fallen in love with the benefits. And now I want to share it with you!

First, I wash my face with witch hazel and a facial pad every morning and evening. Then I apply my special oil recipe:

INGREDIENTS:

1.)   One large jar of organic coconut oil

2.)   Shea Butter (One container or chunk)

3.)   Jason’s Vitamin E oil - Buy the highest number of IU’s available (Use the whole bottle.)

4.)   Almond Oil or Sunflower Oil (Use about half the bottle.)

5.)   Jojoba Oil (For a small container, use the whole bottle. For larger bottles, use half of the product.)

6.)   Rose Hip Oil (5 tincture drops)

7.)   Carrot Seed Oil for SPF protection (5 tincture drops.)

8.)   Bee’s Wax (At least 5 tablespoons of pellets or a small chunk of a bar, depending on how thick you want to make it.)

9.)   Lavender or scented oil of choice (About 10-20 drops depending on the scent you desire.)

STEPS:

Use a double broiler or wing it by using a small saucepan with a large glass bowl to melt the beeswax. The beeswax takes a little longer than the shea butter to melt. As soon as it begins to liquify, add the shea butter. Allow those ingredients to completely melt to liquid, then add all the remaining ingredients and stir. Pour the oil into containers of choice, whether jars or squeeze bottles. Place the oil containers in the refrigerator to help solidify. Remember cold helps reduce inflammation! It is your choice to leave it in the fridge or in the bathroom.

Your body will thank you!
